Hello all. I'm new to the forums, but I just wanted to say thanks for having the tourney. I'm the Wood Elf player with the Autumn themed army. I had two great games, with the last one being rather uncomfortable (because of my opponent's tantrum). Just wanted to say thanks for your hospitality and can't wait for the next event.

| Hey man, I liked how your army looked a lot. Too bad I didn't get to play it with my Skaven. Thursdays are generally fantasy day down at the store, you should drop in sometime. Next event will likely be a doubles tourney in late march I think... |

Thanks for the invite, as well as the compliments. much appreciated. I might just come down one thursday night and see if I could get a game in. I live about an hour away, so I won't be down all of the time. But i'll make an appearance or two soon.

Let me second Chris in saying I thoroughly enjoyed the Longbeards as well. Having put on a lot of tournaments years ago I have some appreciation for the effort and logistics involved in tables, signups, organization etc., and this was an excellent job and an awful lot of effort, which should be appreciated.
This being my first foray into the Game Haven realm, thought as a personal intro I would copy the report I wrote on the day for the DP forum.
(The Lone Slayer is a standing joke. My slayer units tend to die quickly, as is only right, but my Dragonslayers always seem to survive their units, often being all that is left at the end of the battle.)===========
Had a very enjoyable day at the Longbeards tournament. Met some great new people, had 3 great horridly destructive games (very rare to not have one bad game, in my experience), and, though it doesn't show up on the score table, thought my doughty Dwarfs performed very well. There was much talk of cheesefest at 2500 with no comp etc., but I saw none of that. No dragons, no supermagic etc., at least in my games.
I brought a smashmouth get stuck in Strollaz rune list- a battleline of 6 sturdy units - 2 of Warriors, 2 of slayers- one with Dragonslayer, 2 Giantslyers and command, the other naked, Longbeards with GW, and Ironbreakers. I also had 10 handgunners and an organ cannon for flank protection, miners and an Anvil.
Rd 1) Chris Hammond's Woodies. Darn. always enjoy playing Chris, but that army is a poor matchup for an unshooty Dwarf List.He sets up near his table edge, niggles at the flanks with tough, fast stuff, and blocks me with moving woods. However his shooting was incredibly abysmal, (ok, to be fair, the Hail of Doom did kill a guy) so after 2 turns he realized he was getting nowhere unless he let me close, so he stopped moving the woods in my way. (The big problem in this matchup, with no solution I can see.)
So our little iron shod feet managed to tiptoe through the dancing Rowan trees, and all hell broke loose.
As units kept piling up into the scrum, at one point he had dryads attacking the rear of Longbeards, who were attacking the rear of a Treeman (you'd think axes would be good when fighting a tree- next time chainsaws), who, along with the Lord were hitting the flank of warriors who, along with the Dragonslayer and Giantslayer (the Lone Slayer still had one sidekick) were fighting dryads to their front.
He ended up with a solid victory, but we killed about 1100 pts including Wardancers, Waywatchers, Hawkriders, and other creepy fey stuff. A rollicking affair.
Rd 2) Against Mark's Slaneshi. He had a very cool army with all the toys- 2 spawn, giant, furies, daemonettes, fiends (or whatever those beast riding ladies are), big unit of chosen warriors, knights and marauders. We raced to the cenerline and on Turn 1 he charged.
By Turn 2 he was in all down the line, with my only unengaged units being the Organ Gun, anvil, and one unit of warriors.
In a protracted melee eventually the Knights, Chosen warriors, daemonettes and furies fail to crack the Dwarf elites, and all eventually die- if you look closely you can see miners hitting the Golden chosen warriors in the rear. And, yes, the Lone Slayer, his regiment all having met their dooms, AGAIN, hitting them in the flank.
so that on the last turn he sent in the Lord, giant, and remaining fiends, victorious on his right flank, against the shattered remnants of 3 brigades. As the game ended, on the table was a wounded Runelord with no anvil guard left, a Chaos general, a spawn, and 7 Longbeards.
. A draw- though that isn't clear as we weren't sure who ended up with all those fallen standards!
Rd 3 ) Against C J s High Elves. So off I go, and he's a real nice guy and tries to warn me as I race toward him, figuring I haven't seen those new super High Elf specials in action yet . (He is correct in that.) ' You know, they all get 2 attacks- so that' 13 high WS S5 attacks..' So I shrug like ' I'm a Dwarf battleline, there ain't many options. I can't very well pirouette away.'
So in come the Dragon Princes on Warriors, the Swordmasters on Longbeards, and a VERY large fear causing Phoenix Guard on the Ironbreakers, with a chariot to their flank for good measure. (I'm getting my money's worth in this tourney.) And, somehow, we rout all three of them. That's why 'heroes never calculate.'
They run, we chase , we are slow, they rally, we fight again, they run... I am thoroughly enjoying this, but alas the Phoenix Guard rallies, charges the Ironbreakers who fail their fear check and go down. So another draw.
I can't blame my poor Ironbreakers though, they had quite a day- fighting the Elf Lord and his glade guard in Game 1- we kept winning but his stubborness (hey, as a dwarf we can respect that) kept saving him unitl the treeman hit our flank, Chaos Chosen warriors in Game 2 - we kept winning but his BSB reroll saved him 4 times, until the miners arrived , and routing Phoenix Guard in game 3.
Thanks to Steve, to all at Game Haven and to opponents for a lot of fun- Tom ======= _________________ Proud member of the Iacton Qruze fanclub. |

Hey all. Thanks for another great day of gaming. Despite carrying me to success in previous tourney's, the fat mage priest failed us our temple city on Saturday. I look forward to a rematch with Keith's Evil Grey Seer (who only failed to cast one single spell in 6 turns of gaming), and also to a couple of tag team matches, with CJ against Jake and Joel (and their 6 steam tank army). Sorry we had to blast before the prizes were given. Next time we will plan ahead.
Awesome day as usual, Steve. Thanks!

That was a really fun tourney and thanks to all there.
I believe that I have successfully made the point that running 2 Steam Tanks is not unfair at all since I only went Draw, Massacre, Got Massacred! It is that point I made or the one that I am really bad at this game (shut-up Keith).
I look forward to future tourneys with this crowd.
And speaking for the Empire we welcome and challenges. _________________ Sign Here ............. |

That was rediculous, BTW. Best Magic I've had in a game by far. But, were you any army other than Lizard men, perhaps you would have failed a couple panic checks and or break tests! with how well my magic did, i should have crushed you, but I couldn't open up to a flank charge from the Crox. So I had to wait for that one side to break... took too many turns and I never got to move in and finish you off.

I think you happened to get a bad draw Joel. Mike's skaven are very well equiped to deal with Steam tanks. Much more so than my army. I don't recall who you played second. But Fighing Jake was a bad matchup for you too. First, he's been playing empire longer than you. Second his list is better than yours,(not a slight at you Joel, I just think Jake's is really good). Lastly Karl Franz almost auto kills steam tanks as I am sure you found out. |
